Camino de Santiago: Tui to O Porriño

 May 17

Today is our official Camino de Santiago start. We have 21 in our group 18 of which are Hiking. We started with breakfast at our hotel and headed out on “the way”.

As we go through the city streets, we follow our Camino route markers. Sometimes they are plaques on the ground, times there are yellow arrows painted on a building, and sometimes official attractive signs. We pass by many cathedrals and churches in the town.

We passed by what appears to be some type of an outdoor bathing pool.

Shortly we drop out of town and alongside some vineyards on a dirt path

The bridge shown here is from the Roman empire Times. It is 150 m long.

We stopped by a small café just as we were entering the next town. We had some lemonade and a short, relaxing break.

We pass by some houses with beautifully flower gardens in a small town. The fenses in this town are also interesting. They are made from Long flat pieces of stone.

Outside of the town the trail is green and lush in many places. We cross a few old stone bridges along the way.

Along the trail on a somewhat regular basis there are stone crosses in yards or along the road side

The trail leads out of the small town and back into some more lush green landscape with stone bridges.

As we get close to our hotel for tonight, we go back into a small city and walk along a main road. We find more old cathedrals.

The trail leaves the main road and goes through some of the smaller downtown area streets past two more cathedrals. One of them has some very interesting cement, benches that are actually formed and shaped like couches and Ottomans

We arrive at our hotel for tonight, get cleaned up, and finished off the evening with another good group dinner

I enjoyed today’s hike. Today was 11.3 miles. I did not take as many pictures as I probably should have and we need to focus more on that tomorrow as for now, Buen Camino.
