Day 103 resorts and a trail angel

I sat down on a good sitting rock by my tent. I had my breakfast put my pack on and Walked out of camp a couple minutes after six.

Looking far down into the valley at the large lake below. Looking at my Maps have identified it is immigrant lake.

Two new plant observations, the purple, zigzag, Larkspur, and the yellow, tall Western groundsel are regularly lining the trail. The light blue flowers are from the forget me not family, but I have not yet been able to identify the actual species . These very broad, leafed purple flower topped Pacific Trillium is also new to me.

Yesterday I left Callahans guns a blazing. I hiked fast and had my  10 miles done in less than four hours. This morning I woke to birds chirping at 5 AM. I was still tired, but knew I wanted to be hiking by six so I packed up and set out. I am hiking slow today and finding lots of excuses to stop and take pictures. I feel like I’m dragging and tired. I don’t think I slept enough. Hopefully this afternoon I will speed up some. I have stopped at this spring and I’m going to “camel up“ as I may be a little dehydrated also. “Camel up” is the term used when you drink a full liter of water at a water source.

Another stunning meadow alongside the trail. It is so peaceful to look out over it

I listened to a very short message from Pastor Furtick on framing your situation. So many of the things he talked about I can reflect up on and be thankful for

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a place to have lunch. I’ve had success, what a gorgeous view.

This bridge crosses the lake Hyatt reservoir outlet. It was a good place to fill up water after lunch.

Arrived to the Hyatt Lake Dam Road. From there I called the Hyatt Lake resort, who sent somebody to give me a ride to the restaurant. I had a second lunch, burger, fries, and “not a blizzard” after my first lunch my hike got easier. I think in retrospect I probably did not have enough calories after pushing a hard 10 yesterday.

After lunch, got a ride back to the trail headed off through the trees I can see a portion of the lake.

I hiked .2 miles off trail to Klum Landing Campground the signage on PCT rates was not posted. I had a rumor that it was $4 but all posted signs said $25 for a campsite. It was completely empty. There was no staff and I briefly considered staying there, but finally decided against it went back up towards the trail and another .2 miles to an on trail campsite I had seen, it was a great choice. I arrived to find three other hikers and a trail angel named Skeeter. He had Subway sandwiches, chips, cookies, watermelon, beer, and soda! What a perfect end to a good day of hiking.

I set up my tent after the other hikers continued on and visited with skeeter for awhile. before going to bed.

Today’s PCT miles hiked 22.5

Total PCT Miles hiked to date 1209.6

PCT mile marker 1750.7

(Flipped over 542.8 miles)
