I woke up this morning to the glow of the sun coming through my tent. It was an interesting night. I went to bed early as the sun went down and a cloud bank was rolling up over the hill, enveloping our camp area, but we were in a bubble just out of the cloud. Over the night the temperature got fairly chilly and condensation became very heavy on the roof of my tent; However, a light breeze started at about 6 AM and the tent quickly dried. I got up late put my sleeping bag on a log in the sun to dry and packed up all of my other gear.
I did a slow roll at a camp this morning, very relaxing. Enjoyed some breakfast in the warming sun while listening to some worship music, walking out of camp just before eight.
Just 100 yards from where I camped is this piped spring. It gave a small trickle of water which was enough for dinner last night and breakfast this morning.
The pipe is flowing slowly so this morning I opted to wait for more water a half mile up trail when I came to this beautiful well flowing spring. As I waited for my water to filter. I looked at gods beauty around me and continue just to be in awe of his creation and how close I feel to him out here.
I hiked up and over the mountain range coming down the opposite side with expansive views of the desert floor below
I stopped for lunch at a trail head where a trail angel had left sodas, orange crush tasted really good.
The area I’m hiking in now is where the station fire was a number of years ago. It is one of the fires I studied in some of my fire behavior classes. It was fast moving a resulted in the death of two LA County firefighters.
This nice little stream is a good place to fill up for my dry campsite tonight. I’ll be carrying 3 liters of water again.
I am starting to see a lot of blow downs along the trail again on this section.
I found a campsite alongside the trail just below the top of the mountain I’ve been climbing today. The spot is on a knob that overlooks the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster. As the sun went down, the lights in the city were spectacular. I tried to catch it in a picture, but it just doesn’t compare. to the naked eye.
Today’s miles 18.9 Total trail miles 608.5
