Today I’m going to head out down hill from my parking spot towards Brown Ravine, and then continue on alongside the lake towards the levy.
Just before the lake access road there is a beautiful field of yellow wildflowers.
I am amazed at how full the lake is. I don’t know that I’ve actually seen it this high!
At the top of this picture, you can see some trees submerged in the lake. The last time I was here there was dry ground all the way out to that point.
I find the beauty of the flowers soothing. No matter how many times I come across them, it is one of the things I have come to really appreciate on my hikes.
With my middle son being deployed out of the country as active duty military, I have a special appreciation for Rock like this one that have moss similar to the color and pattern of camouflage. It really brings him to the forefront of my mind.
As I come down the trail, I can see a windmill in the distance that I think is neat looking and its own way.
I was able to get a picture of this bird that fluttered in ahead of me. It flew away just after I snapped. The picture.
Today’s hike was really short, less than 5 miles. It did have a little bit of elevation gain and I definitely worked harder than my hike yesterday. It’s amazing to think that what I did today was only about 20 to 25% of what I was doing at the end of the Pct last year.
