Woke up this morning 5 AM and on the trail at 6 AM. We’re hiking into Old Station this morning only 7 miles away. We are able to go to a restaurant for a real breakfast, and looking forward to it. Trail is relatively flat today going through beautiful pine forests. The temperatures are warming up nicely as it started a little bit chilly. We will continue on after breakfast.
As we came down the trail, I looked over to the side and saw this giant lava tube not marked or indicated it at all
Jay Jay’s Café, a great place to fill up our bellies and replenish some calories. Coincidentally, I happened to meet up with ”Went” and “Slug” again who gave us a ride from Independence to Bishop when we came off, Kearsarge pass.

After breakfast, we took a side trail to the subway cave, which is a large lava tube that we are going to explore. Went and Slug are joining us, doubling the size of my group.
After exploring the Subway Cave we had another long, uphill climb. Close to the top I can look back at the mountains and valleys we crossed yesterday.
Woolly Mules Ears are blooming with the large yellow flowers. My friend Steve Clark says the Native Americans used to eat the leaves as a form of birth control.
I came up to this parking area and look out. In the distance. You can see Mount Shasta if you zoom in on the picture.
Another beautiful valley view down below us as we hike along the rim of this mountain side
We stopped to refill our water just before camp at this river and then had to cross it on rocks
Set up camp ate dinner, and laid down for sleep.
