Iceland Day 4

Today we are visiting waterfalls and Galciers. Our first stop is th Seljalandsfoss - Gljufrafoss Waterfalls. It starts with the largest of the falls Dropping from hi above. The trail takes you into a cove behind the water itself. The waterfall creates a larger amount of mist making rain gear a nice accessory

As we continue down the trail we pass a couple of smaller waterfalls higher up on the mountain face which are feeding another very clear stream.

The final waterfall in this section is inside of a rock Gorge.

As a we headed towards our next location we saw this cave entrance and stopped to check it out.

Skógafoss Waterfall is just off the road and provides close up views another large waterfall

As we continue down the road, we passed more incredible Icelandic scenery like this giant Mesa between the road and the ocean

Skaftafellsjökull Glacier Trail leads alongside a steep cliff to one side and open glacier carved desert to the other. The glacier terminates at a lagoon formed from its melt. There are smaller icebergs in the lagoon. Views of the glacier appear to be rock, but on closer examination, we see it is ice mixed with volcanic ash.

From the same parking area as the iceberg Trail, we took another trail to 3 more waterfalls. The trail takes us up a steep grade for a full mile and a half. The first and tallest waterfall is called Hundafoss

The second is called Magnúsarfoss and it's the smallest of the 3. As a testament to the beauty, we see one like this just taking a quick look and moving on

The third is called Svartifos. It is situated around amazing Columnar Basalt. Svartifoss is surrounded by dark lava columns which gave rise to its name. Of three I think this one was the coolest

Leaving the waterfall, we had to make a quick pace down to our car for an hour and a half drive for our group dinner reservation. I had a Icelandic stout that was pretty good.
