This morning did not go as expected. We had planned to wake up to a beautiful sunrise with the sun, illuminating Mount Shasta’s snow covered peak. Instead, we woke up in a fog/cloud bank. Our sleeping bags were soaked because we had left our flies open for the view and there was no sunlight to be seen. We got up an hour later than normal, packed up camp and headed out at about 10 to 7.
As expected, we entered a full snow. We’ve been in it for a few miles and as I remembered, it’s miserable. We came to a place where we did some cross country up to a Ridgeline that has some flatter areas and we will walk along that now parallel to the trail for a while. We even found a snow free area for a good picture.
We’ve climbed the ridge line to its highest point and the views are absolutely amazing on the non-fog side.
We stopped for lunch on this saddle, where the trail crosses to the other side of the mountain, the snow-free side!
Well, snow free lasted a quarter-mile. Hopefully it’ll less than earlier today.
All right, 1 mile of snow, and again we believe we are going to be snow free from here on out.
Walking along this, Ridge continues to have phenomenal Valley views, and the trail still has has some snow. We were still able to find some dry ground to put our tents. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the campsite.
