Day 174 Seavey Pass

 September 6

I woke up and admired the sun on the mountains and the reflection in the lake, and then got packed up headed out from the lake at about 645. I stopped and talked to a couple southbound hikers before heading to the main trail. I was back on the PCT at 7 AM.

Right out of the gate today I get to go uphill and over Seavey pass. I crossed beautiful streams went by some amazing peaks  saw some beautiful waterfalls and crossed another snow field before going up some granite steps.

After what felt like a very long and slow 2 miles I reached the first of two high mountain lakes.

A half mile later, after passing a meadow, some neat geologic, mountainsides, and climbing granite steps I arrived at the second of the high Mountain Lakes.

I leave the second lake and pass through another beautiful meadow, go up an attractive granite staircase with ferns on either side to the top of Seavey pass

After the pass, like always, I drop back down into a valley providing incredible views in all directions

Lo

I crossed many streams, and went up and down a lot more of the rock staircases. At one point I met these two fungi’s hanging out on a tree.

I went up and over another mountaintop and I am descending into the valley below me. Once there I will have my second breakfast, and then go up and over another mountaintop.

I stopped for a second breakfast along this stream after crossing the log. Now I have my final significant climb of the day 2 mile uphill over the next mountain.

Well, I just had my first major fall. I tripped over a root just as I was walking into a dry stream crossing and couldn’t catch myself. Luckily my shoulder went into the soft dirt, and there weren’t any rocks right here, but I did skin my knee, cheek, and tore the shoulder of my shirt. I’ll have to stitch that up when I get to the campsite tonight. Oh well, nothing broken time to get up and going again.

After making it up and over the last big climb, I dropped back down into another valley. I passed by another small lake as I continue down. I love the reflections in the water. The camera picks them up so well.

Further down trail I pass by the shore of the larger Wilma Lake.

I’ve arrived at Falls Creek. Frustrating because I need to stop and put on my water shoes and I’m wanting to make better time. I didn’t even take a picture. Just passed Hall Street is the ranger cabin that does not appear to be in use.

I continue along the valley. Slightly uphill, but comfortable. I pass many Meadows and great scenery from the mountains around.

I have arrived at Dorothy lake. This will be my campsite for tonight. As I was sitting at my tent I noticed some of the clouds catching the setting suns rays. They are pink. I’ve got the tent, set up, cleaned off made my dinner and rolled in my tent to eat it it’s going to be another cold night I think.
