Day 68 all snow

Walking out of camp at 5:25. Trying to beat the afternoon slush a little.

Met up with Tough, I had met her at Kennedy Meadows. She has a group behind her that she is hoping will catch up but for now we’re both hiking alone and decided to team up for safety.

Absolutely gorgeous views from where we have climbed up to

We found a small stream cutting through the trail and were able to stop to refill our water.

I really have nothing to say about the pictures below other than their beauty. They were taken along the trail as I walk.

The trail passes through wide-open meadows filled with snow.

Soon the trail took us by chicken spring lake, but it was .3 miles off trail, and it’s already a long tough day, so we did not go to the lake which is frozen anyway. If you zoom in on these pictures you can see the Cliff side above the lake that has cornices overhanging. You can also see streaks cutting down through the snow where it has started to break off and fall down. Avalanches can be the result of large parts of a cornice breaking.

The trail has climbed above chicken spring lake, and I’m able to get some good photos. I also have the cornices from a different angle.

Today the trail has been nothing but snow. Towards the end of the day, it turns into just a slushy consistency.

Today was another long hard day. I finished in 11 hours. We stopped a little short of the preferred campsite because we were just wasted. The majority of today’s Hiking was at elevations over 10,000 feet and all in snow. We had to stomp down snow to set our tents on top of it. We plan to get up a little earlier to try to beat some of these afternoon slush.
