Today started out like any other. It is the day I fly to San Diego and it hasn’t yet fully set in. My good friend Brian picked me up for a ride to the airport at 10:45. I put my backpack in the backseat and climbed in front. Realizing that I literally would have only the clothes I was wearing and possessions I will carry on my back was odd. A little liberating, and definitely very real! Brian commented on how unconnected I would be; it was that moment I realized I had left my cell phone on the charger in my room! Thankfully we had only gotten about a block away.
After almost 2 weeks of near daily rain it wasn’t lost on me that the drive was dry, and by the time I reached the airport the sun was shining. Gods first gift to me!
Well, waiting for my flight got a notice it was going to be delayed 45 minutes because of a “weather“ hold in San Diego, 10 minutes later, they said they announced the delay was canceled, and we boarded.
I landed in SD and went to baggage claim. My backpack made it with no issues. I took the free airport shuttle to the old town transit center which is a block from my hotel.
The old town transit center is where I will catch the “ PCT Southern Terminus Shuttle” in the morning. I should mention there is no rain, no wind, and comfortable temperatures. God is good.
Just kitty corner 1/4 block from my hotel is a Mexican restaurant named Casa Guadalajara.
Evidently it is an extremely popular place, packed on Wednesday, but as a 1 top I was quickly seated. The beef fajitas were fantastic and were served with some of the best handmade tortillas I think I’ve ever had, and they were the full burrito size, not the small taco ones. I finished it all, three large fajita burritos!
Very full, I waddled back to my hotel and treated myself to what will soon become a rare luxury… A long hot shower and warm bed.
I just hope I can get some sleep as the anxiousness and excitement is beginning to build.
