Today will be a driving day with multiple steps along the way. We started back at Pingvellir National park overlook then the Öxarárfoss Waterfall trail. Following the waterfall, we visited the historic church and Prime Ministers Summer residence. We had not looked at those on our first visit. On the way, we passed a beautiful pink Heath Spotted Orchid We got another quick view of the lake and took in some of the facts about it. I have previously discussed on day one post As we returned to our vehicles, I got to see my daughters, a beautiful heart once again. There is a gentleman and a wheelchair being pushed up the steep boardwalk trail. Alyssa jumped in and helped push it to the top. |

Our next stop was Strokkur. Iceland’s most visited active geyser, located in the Geysir Geothermal Area, titled after the Great Geysir, which lent its name to all others across the world. Strokkur is the greatest active geyser on site; Geysir itself is in a period of inactivity. Strokkur erupts fifteen to twenty metres every five to ten minutes. Just spectacular. From the lower level geysers, we hike up a long steadily rising slope past Blesi hot spring to an overlook with beautiful valley view, and a good view of the geyser below. |
Gullfoss Waterfall is a large and beautiful set of falls and cascades with an upper and lower viewing area. |

The Kerid Volcanic Crater Lake is a cool lake situated inside a volcanic crater. After the volcanic crater lake, we returned to Reykjavik where are we explored a unique cathedral. Our last stop on a busy day was to a restraint named Loki that serves a plate of authentic traditional Icelandic food including fermented shark that has a strong ammonia smell and taste, dried fish, smashed fish, and rye bread ice cream. It was actually pretty good. |
