We got up at 5 AM and walked out of camp at 6 AM to a beautiful morning. We did have overnight rain, but it hasn’t caused any problems. We started a long uphill climb out of the valley with beautiful scenery below.
We hiked along this little creek for a while, the trail crosses it a couple times the water sounds as always are comforting.
We came over the top of the mountain that we were hiking up and immediately we’re going down the other side
We came to Kings River we had to cross on a large log. Thankfully, it had fallen there because getting over without it would’ve been difficult. I had tried to start a video of me crossing and unfortunately, when I put my camera in my chest strap the video turned off! What a bummer it was a good crossing.
We follow the river in and out of a Meadow that’s kind of more like a partially snow-covered swamp. We followed its feeder stream uphill and are now crossing another meadow with more beloved sun cups. I talked about the sun cups in my Sierra posts, they are miserable to walk on as you have to step on the rim of each hole. They’re not very fun for the ankles. We started off with a great dry trail, uphill and then turned into about 4 miles of snow so far.... Hopefully we get out of it soon.
After trudging and walking over about 20 different downed trees to get through a swampy flooded stream area, we believe we have reached a dry trail
The snow covered Mount Lassen stands off to our left, as we go down the trail through another burned area.
I would be curious to know the force of the wind that knocked this three over
We are encountering many lakes, and streams that are not shown on our map. They are only here because of the amount of snowfall this year.
We’ve come out of Lassen National Forest and are now walking down this manzanita covered in trail towards Hat Creek which is our planned campsite for tonight.
We arrived at Hat Creek, which is more of a river than a creek, and set up camp. We did good mileage today when we consider 7 of it was in full snow.
Today’s PCT miles hiked 19.4
Total PCT Miles hiked to date 826.9.
PCT mile marker 1369.7
(Flipped over 542.8 miles)
