Today we again we have to road walk for a couple of reasons. The section of trail starting at this location is another dangerous area of snow conditions on the backside of the mountain. More on the second reason in a bit. The trail crosses Highway 2 multiple times making it easy to get back on the actual trail. Just about everybody at this location is making the decision to road walk. The highway follows some steep cliffs along the side and passes through these two tunnels
When the trail rejoins Highway 2 we still cannot get on it and once again are forced to take a road walk because of the Mountain Yellow Legged frog endangered species habitat! This is a long standing official trail closure and detour.
Not a fan of this section of trail; although, there have been some great views; with the snow, mountaineering climbs, and especially the road walks, it has pretty much sucked
After our road, walk of about 9 miles we get back to where the trail again crosses the highway and open section of Trail
It is refreshing to get back to dry trails with running streams of water.
I came across camp Glenwood sitting right alongside the trail. It’s an old school house that has been converted to a boy Scout camp. There were some guys here doing some work and they offered us peanut butter and jelly, sandwiches and tangerines. They are now Trail Angles!
Now that I’m out of the snow, I’m able to do more pictures of things like these rock formations. I think the rock on top of the third picture looks like the head of a teddy bear.
I stopped at this beautiful stream for some water and a snack.
Climbed up to this saddle. It has great views. Then continued climbing more to my campground.
Today started out with a road walk in lou of trail due to dangerous conditions on one part and the endangered frog protection on the other. Total Trail Miles covered today was 24.3, although I believe the road walk was around seven to 9. Which was a little less on the actual trail. Still I’m counting Trail miles. (in all honesty I think I walked about 18)
I camped on the side of the trail on this mountain side, with a beautiful views.
Today’s miles 24.3 Total trail miles 589.6
(PCT mile mark 410.3 due to Flip completion of 200.7 and fire closure)
