Today was a slow start lazy day in the hotel room while I waited for my Bridge climb time to come. We’re getting good at the public transportation thing and knowing where we need to go, we took a bus to the circular Quay and then walked about 15 minutes to the check-in area. We passed some neat suitcase art on the way.
I checked in and I got a coupon for a free meal only valid today. My client will not be done until 3 o’clock and we have the buffet dinner tonight at five so took a quick walk to the restaurant for a pre-climb meal instead of a post climb.
The climb is a pretty interesting operation. We’re going into international safety briefing are told everything must come out of our pockets wrists next all jewelry watches phones must be left behind. We are given breathalyzer tests and then lead into a changing room where we are handed climbing suits. A full one piece, long sleeve long pant Garment. Once we change into our climbing suits, leaving our clothes behind place our belongings in a locker and then go to our harness station. As we went from the locker room to the suit up location with the harnesses, Regina snapped a few pictures.
The jumpsuit we are wearing has attachment points on the back and the sleeves glasses get straps put on them and the straps are clipped onto the suit . Mind you I have no pictures of any of this because my camera has been left in the locker. We get put into a full body harness, then we are given windbreakers in a pouch that clip onto our climbing suit, next is a hat with a lanyard that attaches to our suit. We next are put onto a climbing simulator to practice what we will do. There cable system is pretty ingenious. Our harness has a lanyard with a plastic attachment point. The beginning of the walk has a place where the cable in is exposed. It goes through the center of the attachment point attachment point has a slit on one side that allows it to slide along the cable and have the cable mounts pass through the split however, the cable can never come out of the attachment. After climbing up some stairs, going over a landing and climbing back down the stairs to get familiar with the attachment lanyard, we head out to the bridge. The first section was a flat walkway underneath the approach to the bridge. We reached the large granite abutments that hold up the arched span on the other side. We climb some ladders at the top of the first landing the guy next to me tapped me on the shoulder and said somebody’s trying to get your attention. I looked down and there is Regina on the street below getting some more pictures. She is like my own personal photographer on these trips.
Our guide also took pictures throughout the climb, which of course they sell at the end. These were taken by the guide from the location I was standing in Regina’s pictures above.
Midway up the arch we stop for more pictures and to admire the view .
Up at the top of the arch, it is again, time for pictures.
We reach the center of the arch and crossover from one side to the other. Of course, more pictures here and then we start back down the other side.
After returning and getting all of our gear off, I checked out the pictures and there is a fair amount of them, so I decided to go ahead and buy them. They say that government regulations don’t allow you to bring your phones and take pictures. Don’t know if I buy that excuse But I did buy the photos.
We hurried back to the hotel so I could take a quick shower and change clothes for our dinner tonight. We got back on the bus and went to the Sydney eye tower.
Our reservations for 5 o’clock our table time is an hour and a half. We were disappointed because we wanted a 530 time so we could see sunset. God is good, we arrived at 4:30. The hostess told us that we would have to wait until our table time of 5 o’clock or we could go up to the bar located above the restaurant with a one drink minimum we opted to do that. She also said if we wanted more time up there, she could push our table reservation back to 530 which has us ending right at sunset the exact time we had hoped for when we made our initial bookings. We took the elevator to the top and were rewarded with amazing views.
After spending some time admiring the views, we headed down to our table at the restaurant. The bar is stationary the restaurant rotates 360°.
We have incredible view of the city. There’s a storm in the distance and we have the occasional flash of lightning.
It is really neat seeing some of the buildings monuments and parks that we visited from this view. A completely different perspective.
About halfway through our dinner or engulfed in a cloud that wispy will come and go glimpses of the scenery.
The clouds went away and we rotated looking towards the sun as it began to set. It was beautiful.
