Day 87 into Dunsmuir

I woke up this morning. I was able to see a little bit of a sunrise to my left, but again the trees and surrounding mountains blocked most of it.

I said yesterday I left my vestibules rolled up so I had a good view out of my tent netting, and of course at about 1030 pm. the rain started. I quickly sat up and zipped down my vestibules to stay dry and laid back down for more sleep.

Popcorn and Went have been hiking much slower than me, so they got up earlier and left about 40 minutes ago. I am heading out of camp alone at 6 AM but I’m excited as today is a town day. That means I get a shower! I get to throw away my trash! I get to sleep in a real bed and eat real food!

I get some breaks in the trees and can look out over the valley to see the sun partially illuminating the mountain sides. I’m having some alone time with my creator I just can’t fathom how incredible heaven will be when I consider that what I see here is not His perfect creation

The top of Mount Shasta is shrouded in clouds that blend in with it snow covered sides.

The pictures don’t fully show the contrast of the mountains across the valley but they are incredible.

Another beautiful trail stream. I have come across it on the official PCT trail. There is a very odd occurrence on the far out hiking app. There is a junction listed that in their information provided states you can take an old trail up to the left to a  mountain peak, no other information is given; however, the red trail marking line on the app shows the trail continuing straight. turning right the sign says PCT continues straight. If you make an hard left you are on a side trail. In reality, the side trail is the actual PCT and continues straight while a hard right keeps you on the red trail line which is an alternate! There is no explanation to it. I discovered this when I was .5 miles past it. I continued on the official PCT Trail Although that route is about 2.8 miles longer! (after doing a bunch of math and looking up at different locations I discovered the actual PCT trail route I took is the correct mileage the alternate is only 1.2 miles. However, that is not indicated in the app)

Same Contrasting mountain ridges with different lighting

I crossed the Sacramento River arriving to Dunsmuir and I called the Airbnb we are staying at. The owner arrived to pick us up at the trail head five minutes after I got there. Jeanne rents out the lower floor of her home. It’s kind of a private apartment. It has a bedroom, living room, kitchen and shower.

After showering the owner, Jeannie brought us to town and dropped us off for some food.

Today’s PCT miles hiked 11.7

Total PCT Miles hiked to date 958.3

PCT mile marker 1501.2

(Flipped over 542.8 miles)
