DSW trip day 4 kayak Lake Powell, Upper Antelope Canyon tour, Glen Canyon Dam Overlook horseshoe Bend sunset

Today’s adventure starts with a kayak trip in Lake Powell down lower antelope Canyon.

We will travel 1 mile down the lake and turn into lower antelope Canyon for another mile to where the water ends in the canyon floor becomes visible.

We paddle down the lake with towering walls of rock alongside us. The color change from white to brown is the high water level when the lake is full you can see it is over 120 feet below that mark.

Along the way we passed a blue herring which took flight in front of us and then landed midway up one of the canyon walls.

Buffalo corner is the halfway mark in the canyon channel. It gets its name from the colored mark on the wall resembling Buffalo.

We reached the end of the lakes finger and turned around to return to our launch location. Beach in the kayak and hiking up the canyon is an option we did not select as we are headed to upper antelope Canyon for our next tour.

We paddle back to the launching location and climbed back onto dryland

Next, we loaded up in Tours buses for a drive to the upper antelope Canyon. It is located on the Navajo Nation Lands, and we are required to have a guide with us.

The canyon is absolutely incredible. They were created by water passing through the sandstone wearing away the sides you can see the swirl marks where the water turns and comes back on itself, carving deeper holes into the rock

The sun shines in from above giving just enough light to see as we walk through the canyon. Pictures that show a bright light are generally taken straight up, looking through the top opening of the canyon.

Our guide was good at pointing out good picture spots and snapping some photos of us. At one point, the light shines forward, creating angel wings.

As we exited the canyon, we were treated to some traditional Navajo music played on the flute by our guide. Captured it on video at the end of my blog.

We came out the opposite of the canyon from where we entered and walked back to the vehicles along the way we looked out at beautiful scenery, and rock formations. The first one is called the three elephants. If you look close, you can see them standing in a row.

Following our Canyon adventure, it was back in the cars and a short drive to the Glen Dam overlook. A short trail takes you to the Cliffside overlooking both the Colorado river and the Glen Dam both impressive sites from this vantage point.

Returning to the resort, we spotted a road runner. One of our group members, LB, had said that finding a roadrunner was one of her goals to make the trip complete. Mission success.

Our final outing of the evening is a trip to horseshoe Bend for a sunset view. The river is beautiful as it makes a horseshoe in the canyon
