It’s been a while since I’ve been out on a hike, so I thought I would get out this morning. It’s a beautiful day. Wasn’t sure where I was going to go, I decided on this easy hike that goes down a drainage Creek k own as The Oaks. I’ll turn around and head back at the end. The hike starts with an ominous warning sign. In actuality rattlesnakes aren’t a big risk. They rarely strike even when people get close. They like to be alone and generally take off when they hear you coming.
The trail goes over a few nice bridges crossing the creek. The first creek has a fair amount of water running under it. There is also a nice stone pathway over a small dry creek bed.
All right, so I’m chuckling to myself. This trail is much shorter than I had remembered so I’m going to continue down a short bike path, through a neighborhood, to the nearby New York Creek.
New York Creek has a good flow as well which is pretty. It is accessed across this large bridge.
I came across some beautiful wildflowers planted behind somebody’s house. It adds a nice splash of color to the drying grass and oaks
I’ve reached about 2 1/2 miles, a good turning around point for a total of five today. One interesting thing this community does is wildfire management using goats. Temporary fences are set up and the goats freely graze on the grass and brush. They move to another area Once they have cleared most of the grass.
You will notice on the summary of my hike that my speed is pretty slow today. My middle son is active duty military deployed out of country. I was able to reach him by phone and had a nice call during my walk.
😊
The California buckeye has a pretty flower sprouting from it today, they are soft white petals on a long stem.
Today was a nice hike, the weather was beautiful. It was easy terrain definitely much less effort than I am used to. I had a total of 5 miles.
