We walked out of camp this morning at 6:15. The mosquitoes were a little more active this morning. Something we have not seen in awhile. Once out of camp and on the trail, they seemed to go away. Again today we are walking in forest land typical of what I think of when I think of Oregon.
The trail crews in Oregon have been busy, and as I have said, before we are very thankful for them. This is an enormous cut. I stood next to it to show how large it really is.
We stopped at this Creek Crossing for a second breakfast and water refill.
A big uphill push, has my cooling system working overtime.
I have seen a few of these Trail Blazes on a few of the trees here in Oregon, I think they are from before the trail was officially established.
We are officially in the mount hood in Wilderness.
We have been seeing a bunch of small orange cones on the trail and are wondering what they were for. We figured there would be some kind of a trail race at some point. We came to an aid station, the race is today and they said there should be about 150 runners coming towards us. The good news is, we will be able to see them and get out of the way, the better news is the aid station gave us some watermelon!
You know we had about 50 runners pass us. For each one I briefly stepped off the trail.
We briefly stopped at a place called horse camp, which is exactly as it sounds. It is a campsite that has corrals for horses. People bring their horse trailers camp there and ride the surrounding trails. After lunch, we continued down the trail. This forest has some really good quality PCT signs.
We soon came to the south end of Timothy Lake, a large recreation area. It feeds a small river we have been following.
The Trail took us well interior off of the eastern shore. It was amazing how humid it became with the breeze blowing across the lake towards us.
We set up camp went for a swim ate dinner and headed to bed.
Today’s PCT miles hiked 19.5
Total PCT Miles hiked to date 1538.5
PCT mile marker 2078.8
(Flipped over 542.8 miles)
