After sleeping we went down and met up with our hiker family members Jeff and Ellen for some breakfast at the hotel.
We went back to our room and put our meals together. Last night after shopping we did not have the energy.
Unfortunately, Jeff and Ellen have a family issue they need to attend to and must go off trail until Monday, but they have a rental car and are giving us a ride back with Charlie who is going to continue hiking with Ryan and me. We told them they have moved from family to Trail angel’s.
Back on the trail at 1:50 in the afternoon, a very late start but nice relaxing morning. We were greeted with more of the clay figurines.
We are back in the same terrain we were in yesterday. Walking up a desert floor into the next mountain range. We cross dry river beds and move into the foothills.
Soon we came to the beginning of section C of California’s portion of the trail.
The Mesa wind farm has offices in the middle of nowhere in these desert foothills. They are very PCT hiker friendly. They have a storage room set up with tables, power cords for our devices, bathrooms, snacks, and water for purchase. Again, very thankful for those willing to give to others.
We left the Mesa wind farm and continued up into the foothills
That last uphill push in the desert heat is no joke. Even with the sun umbrella I sweat out about a half liter of water. If look closely at my shirt you’ll see it is soaked about 3/4 of the way down.
Once over the saddle the trail, snakes, its way back down the opposite side of the canyon.
At the end of the descent into the valley, we are rewarded with views of beautifully eroded canyons, and sedimentary hillsides.
We continue to be blessed with beautiful groupings of wildflowers along the trail
Not only are the wildflowers beautiful but the canyon walls are also awe inspiring.
Today we chose to hike an extra .5 miles off trail (which we don’t typically count as trail Miles in the totals) to camp at White Water Preserve. It once was a trout farm and is now a nature, preserve that is PCT hiker friendly.
White Water Preserve is gorgeous. There were a ton of day campers here as well. In the picture of the a mountain just adjacent to camp. You can see mountain goats at the very top looking down at us. The third mountain picture is zoomed in on the goats.
As typical, we quickly set up our tents, ate dinner and went to bed with 9.1 more miles down. Not bad for a 2 PM start.
Today’s miles 9.1 Total trail miles 419.2
(PCT mile mark 218.5 due to Flip completion of 200.7)
