Day 20 Zero number 2

We did not intend to take a zero today. We had planned to go 2 weeks between each, but Ryan has what he thinks might be the beginning of a shin splint and we think it wise to take a day off to keep it from getting any worse.

Hiker town is cheap accommodations. The convenience store down the road makes great food , there’s a toilet and a hot shower winner winner.

Today, had a Filipino breakfast bowl. There are two other hikers here with us. We’re having great conversation. One of them, also named David actually lives 12 miles from me. Old Goat is the other. Both veterans.

Our first zero that we took in Idyllwild really wasn’t a zero I noticed. We were so busy having to walk all around town without transportation that by the time we got done shopping, eating, doing laundry, getting dinner, and prepping all of our food, we actually went to bed later than most nights on the trail. We didn’t get any rest. This time we are getting the downtime our bodies need to recover a bit.

We did our shopping last night and we’re able to organize our food first thing this morning, did a little laundry and had the rest of the day to just rest, eat, visit, relax, Repeat.

For lunch, I took a roast beef sandwich to go, and at Hiker Town we found some peanut butter and jelly someone had left in the hiker box, so I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chocolate milk for second lunch.

We got all of our gear dried out, put back together and then called for a ride back to the Neenach Market for dinner.

We visited all day with a bunch of other amazing hikers. Pictured are Groceries, Ellen, Jeff, David, and you know Ryan. We all came for dinner together.

My first dinner was the Hiker burger again and second dinner was half chicken and fries with an ice cream drumstick for dessert.

We got our free ride back to Hiker Town and went straight to bed for the night ready for our hike to continue in the morning.

Tomorrow will be going down a portion of the California aqueduct.

Good night sun, hello moon

Today’s miles 0 total trail miles 218.3.  PCT mile mark 517.6 due to Flip of 299.5

  1. Sounded like a great idea for a Zero day in a good location with lots of food! Also looks like you have connected well with the community of hikers! Bravo!
