Day 21 back on the trail again

Well, we had not anticipated taking a second zero this soon it was a wise decision. We both are ready for the trail this morning.

Update on the knee it wasn’t as bad as I originally thought. No pain and the bleeding stopped pretty quickly seems to be healing well.

I did one last walk through hiker town with video before we hit the trail. It has been a good place to recuperate a bit.

Goodbye hikertown hello trail

Today’s trail goes in pretty much straight lines towards the foothills we will do a couple of 90° turns as we hike along the California aqueduct bringing  water from Northern California to Southern California.

This portion of the trail walks on top of the now covered aqueduct pipe. Notice the thousands of rivets in this pipe.

As the pipe crosses this drainage, it comes out of the ground and you can see the enormity of it.

We have been hiking along essentially dry, barren land, however, as we cross the drainage we come upon a Forest of Joshua Trees

Out here in the middle of a nothingness is this giant solar farm, in person with the naked eye there are 4 to 5 fields full of the panels like this one did you see directly in front.

Hmmm maybe this warning should’ve been at the beginning of the pipe and not 2 miles down!

5 1/2 miles in this morning and time for a quick snack break, I brought a treat from the market with me. Light weight, high fat and oh so good. I ate the whole bag….. and yes I got off the pipe.

…….. all gone.

This portion is the Los Angeles aqueduct, which is a concrete covered water channel that goes on for miles.

As we hike, we continue to find homesteads and or trailer parks in the middle of nowhere

Along the road we stopped for a quick bite to eat. A truck pulled up and stopped a gentleman who goes by the name caveman sat with us for a few minutes and talked about the free couch he just picked up.

A little further down the road we met alex who is an arborist for Edison. He stopped and offered us a little water.

As we continued walking through the desert we’ve been paralleling solar farms most of the way. We are also passing a bunch of distribution lines in front of us with some windmills.

Ant colonies are all over the road. We regularly pass them.

Although barren, there are portions of the desert that you just marvel at the beauty such as this motorcycle trail with all the flowers.  It is adjacent to the road we’re walking

We arrived to Cottonwood Creek, which is home for the evening. We soaked our feet in the ice cold water, ate some dinner and visited with some other hikers, Old goat, Jeff and Ellen have also decided to camp here along with about five other Sobo, hikers we have not yet met.

Tent site is in a beautiful spot right along the river.

Today’s miles 17.3. Total trail miles 235.6.  PCT mile mark 535.0 due to Flip of 299.5
