New Zealand Day 7 drive to Teanau & glow worm Cave

 March 16, 2026

This morning was another leisurely morning at the hotel. We had breakfast and went to Queenstown for some last minute Shopping before heading out on our drive to the town of Teanau.  We arrived and had a lunch of meat pies, a New Zealand, staple. We then boarded a catamaran for a lake cruise to the glow worm caves.

Once we arrived at the glowworm caves. We watched a quick video speaking a little bit about what we would see, then entered the cave.

The cave has a river flowing through it. Its caverns and water channels are impressive.

As it gets darker, we see the glow worms. They are attached to the ceilings of the caves. They are small specks of light. I saw them as green. Some people see them as blue and some as white. It is actually dependent on the person’s eyes.
The cave has a river flowing through it. We walk across the catwalk and at the end board a boat in total darkness to float back into the cave, a few hundred feet. Upon returning to the education center they were served hot chocolate and told a little more info on the glowworm lifecycle.

We returned to our starting location on the boat  and then headed to check in to our hotels.  Once checked in, we went to a local bird sanctuary.

Some of the women in our group decided to grow their own wings.
