Australia day six travel to Melbourne

March 28, 2026

Early morning as we take a bus and train back to the airport or a flight from Sydney to  Melbourne.

After a short hour and 20 minute flight, we arrived in Melbourne and loaded down the stairs to the terminal.

After picking up our bags, we boarded the “Sky Bus” for our ride into the city and our hotel. It’s an impressive bus.

Melbourne is known for its food and it’s culture. Walking from the bus depot to our hotel we passed the mix of old buildings. A lot of neat wall art on some of the older buildings and neat design features on some of the new.

Our hotel room was not yet ready once again, so we headed out to hit the first stop on some of our food tour picks.  Self guided food Tours was one of the favorite things we did in Sydney.  Interestingly enough we passed a TV commercial that was being filmed. The street was closed, but we were able to walk by between scenes

Metro Burger is our first stop. We will be getting a Kangaroo Burger and a Crocodile Burger. Neither one with that impressive, but not your normal every day food.

We continue to our next location passing by Saint Paul’s Cathedral.

The city has a very interesting mix of old buildings sandwiched between newer buildings. Also of note is the Flinders street train station.

Hosier Lane is known for its graffiti art on the walls that changes regularly currently there is a lot of Iranian support messages.

Our next food location is Lune Croissants. It’s a little shop that is packed inside in a line out the door.

Everything is fresh made on site and you can see the large refrigerators holding product being prepared.

They have nine different varieties we chose the chocolate hot cross bun, almond croissant, and kquion aman (a carmelized pastry).

Wow, the first word that came to mind when I took a bite of each one of the rolls everyone is fantastic in its own way a rich creamy smooth chocolate filling a flaky, buttery caramelized crunch, and a rich almond flavored a croissant with a butter almond paste inside. Absolutely delicious, but I can feel the pounds being added to my waist.

After we ate, we got on the trolley and took it around town. Melbourne has a circular route that encompasses the central city. Everything went within that area is free transportation. We saw a couple sculptures off the side of the road and got a feal for the layout of the city and then headed back to our hotel to relax for a bit.

For dinner, we went to a dumpling house. It literally is a hole in the wall. It has a roll up commercial door and its front and is a 20 x 40‘ rectangular space.  We ordered the house special, which is a mackerel dumplings. The second most recommended was the Melbourne made with chicken and calamari, our third order was the wagu beef. I think the favorite among the three of us was the house special mackerel

With our appetite primed we next went to Bowltiful Noodles, another shop recommended in online searches. We walked up to find a line at the door. No tables were available, but we did get a bar style seating with just a short wait. They had to make the noodles right at the back of the shop. You can watch them through a window. The noodles were deliciously fresh, the broth was flavorful. The serving size was huge, definitely a pleaser.

We headed back to the hotel and discovered there is a rooftop pool. We went up there to take a look at the views which are very nice.
