Cambodia mission trip day 8 Saturday

Saturday, February 7

This part of my post is hard to write without feeling a bit guilty about the mission trip service component verses the vacation type fun, especially when I’ve received some donations. It is hard to explain why the team down day is important, but throughout the trip we share some fairly heavy life stories and see some difficult living conditions. The team day helps us regulate and process before coming home.

Last night we stayed in the seaside town of Kep.

The hotel is very nice. Our team is staying in multiple room villas that can accommodate all 15 of us. There are wood in the pathways leading throughout the resort surrounded by jungle trees. The doors to our rooms have signs of warning to keep them closed so the monkeys that inhabitant the trees do not raid our rooms.

Our plan originally was to rent some scooters and ride to the "Lok Yeay Mao" Monument at the top of Bokar Mountain; however, we could not find available rentals for the 15 of us, so I went to the harbor, hoping to rent a boat to one of the nearby small beach islands. Once again, our plans were foiled as it was packed. We returned to the hotel out by the pool and got some massages.

We learned about the hotel had eight scooters for rent so a group of us returned to “plan A”

The ride was amazing. We rode through town, negotiated some of the heavier traffic, and then began our ascent up the mountain. Monkeys lined the sides of the road at the temperature quickly dropped.

We arrived at the monument snapped a couple pictures and headed back down

We returned to Kampot and met the rest of the team for some wood oven fired pizzas from a guy who sounded as if he was Italian. The crust was delicious.

Half of the team returned to the hotel in our bus the other eight of us took the scooters to a night market browsed some of the shops that really had nothing different than what we’ve seen previously.

After one final night ride, we arrived back to the hotel and went to sleep for the final time in Cambodia. As I walked into my room past this outdoor light covered with moths

Sunday morning we woke up, ate breakfast, and loaded into the bus and spent 3 1/2 hours on the road back to Phnom Penh.

A huge thank you to all those who supported our trip with prayers and donations.
