Costa Rica Mission Trip days1-3

Today I start my next adventure. I am headed to Costa Rica to serve with a team from my church. Nine of us departed from Sacramento at 11:59 PM and had a three hour layover at Dallas Fort Worth, I was able to get some food and coffee in an airport lounge. It’s a good start to what will be an amazing trip. We will meet up with the rest of our team in Costa Rica after four more hours in the air. There will be 18 of us total.

We arrived And spent about an hour going through the line then another 45 for customs. We loaded in vans and headed to our lodging.

After arriving at the house we will stay in for the week, We spent some time unpacking then it’s off to a local beach for sunset viewing. The house is a fairly recent build that is able to hold 16 of our team. Two members live here in Costa Rica and we’ll meet us at each service area. The house is very nice.

The beach is amazing. Sunsets are on the itinerary for each night. God’s creation is a gift we will admire each evening.

Back to the house for dinner and an early bed time. Other than I an hour on the first leg of our flights I’ve been awake 39 hours.

Sunday, our first full day. I slept 11 hours! We all gathered outside in the patio for a group devotional followed by a delicious breakfast.

Back in the vans to go to the local church our team is partnering with: Tamarindo Church.

After church, we headed to the two areas we serve in tomorrow one group to the vacation Bible school site where we will entertain children from the community, the other group is the construction team that will be working at a local rehab program.

Monday January 19.

Today our team split into two groups. One group went into town to do VBS (vacation Bible school) to local kids in a community who are on summer vacation.

The other nine of us went back to the rehab program to begin our construction project there. Work consists of finishing the interior walls of their facility. The building has finished exterior walls the inside our bare studs. The upper end of the walls will remain open for ventilation. We will install concrete board on all the interior walls. Another half of the group will be building planter beds outside in cinderblock for them to raise some of their own food.

As we expected, we visited another beach for another beautiful sunset

We have a local husband and wife team who have been making our breakfasts and dinners. The food has been fantastic so far.

Both work groups experienced some pretty personal moments with individuals they met in our service areas. I am amazed how quickly a bond can be created with somebody in another country. It does not speak your language or experiences.
