DSW trip day 5 Cathedral Wash, Forest Gump Point

This morning started with breakfast at the hotel restaurant offering a gorgeous sunrise view

Next, we loaded up our cars and drove an hour to the Cathedral Wash  trailhead. Our hike will take us 3.3 miles total out and back. The midpoint is the shore of the Colorado river.

Just getting out of the car before we even start on the trail wow are the first words that come to mind

From the road, we walk down into the wash and go under the roadway to begin the hike down the dry river bed

Come to a place that we are remembering some of the biblical stories. It looks like the two stone tablets thrown down on the side of the mountain on one side and the lion of Judah on the other.

The Trail leads to an area with some fairly technical rock, scrambling. We lower ourselves down midway to the river bed, and then walk along it on rocks, resembling cat walks.

Eventually, we arrive back on the Sandy floor of Canyon after a few more stressful climbs

Along the way we picked up Dana who is visiting from Germany. She asked if she could hike with us through be more challenging sections. She is from Dachu unfortunately, in this picture, she’s stuck away in the back. I have a close-up of her at the river.

At one point, I came to an area that did not have an easy way to down. I jumped about 5 feet causing the rest of my group just called me for not being careful enough. In the picture below I’m pointing to where I jumped from,

The mouth of the canyon began to widen out, and I could hear the sound of the river down below us

Soon we reached the Colorado river, beautiful a greenish color with white rabbits winding through the tall canyon walls

As promised, I have a close-up of Dan our German friend

We turned around and prepared to head back into the canyon this time, scrambling up the rocks on our return to the cars

We drove to Monument Valley, where we will spend the night. Before going to our hotel. As we entered the area, we stopped for some pictures of some of the surrounding scenery.

Before going to our hotel we drove about 15 minutes up the road to the site where Forrest Gump stopped running because he was tired In the movie.

The view from tonight’s lodging is incredible. We see this from our front porch.

The sunset was beautiful
