July 26
This morning started off very cold. We have not had a morning like this in a while. Frost on the tent and a lot of condensation. Mount Rainier sits just on the other side of our campsite opposite Mount Adams. It was not visible yesterday with clouds today, but it stands out.
We’ve come to the knob that has another really cool view of both. Mount Rainier and the valley socked in with the fog.
Have another great shot of the valley with the socked in fog really cool looking it’s like an ocean with islands
I got another good view of Mount Saint Helens again, which erected in the 80s violently blowing off its top and part of its side.
Adams showing us it’s glacier right in the middle. It is a great view.
I just can’t stop marveling over the beauty of the valley below with the fog and the mountains poking through
The giant red Indian paintbrush is another species of a paintbrush family that we are seeing a lot of.
Here we have another large lava field formed years ago when Mount Adams last erupted
This is today’s first pond that we are passing along on trail. It’s fairly shallow, but very clear looks to be about half it’s normal size
Mount Rainier is on the left the large jagged peaks to the right are the goat rocks which we will be hiking tomorrow.
We’ve come to the foot bridge crossing this small stream. It has a beautiful waterfall off to one side and crystal clear pools of water to the other.
Took a quick second breakfast break at South Fork of muddy Creek at this footbridge.
This next foot bridge, crosses a tributary of muddy Fork. You can see the milky color of the water from all the small rock particles that the Mount Adams glacier shaves as it slowly slides on the mountains face.
Once again, the trail passes a small pond. This one has a small little island in the middle that’s kind of neat. Just a couple turns down the trail we come to this second bond.
The lettering on the sign is difficult to read, but I am entering the goat rocks wilderness.
The Trail is passing by many of these high mountain meadows, they are beautifully nestled in amongst the trees.
We reached our campsite at a Trail Junction. There is a pond nearby we are able to refill water from and we’re off the trail in a nice secluded spot.
