Day 126 Zero in Hood River

July 20

We spent today in Hood River preparing for a return to trail tomorrow. We started with a bus ride to Walmart, which surprisingly had a very poor selection of resupply items, it’s normally very good. From there, we walked to Safeway to supplement a little more.

When we returned to the hotel all the food was spread out, we made our prepared items, packaged it up and packed at all for tomorrow.

I have had an ongoing shoe fiasco. When I entered Oregon in Ashland, I got a new pair of ultra lone peaks. They were not the shoe I wanted, but was all REI had. I knew they were not going to be good for me, but gave them a shot anyway. Almost immediately my feet started to hurt more than they had been in a long time. I ordered a pair of topo’s to be sent to Bend Oregon and they arrived when I did. Oregon has been tough on shoes. The front part of my toes started to separate I called and they are sending me a new pair, under warranty, that I had hoped I would receive today, but they will not be here till tomorrow. We had hoped to be on the trail first thing in the morning, but now it looks like we may not get there until the afternoon. I used to get really frustrated with things did not go the way I had planned, but I have had a lot of lessons and learned to go with the flow and there is a reason for it all.

Next-door to our hotel is a sushi restaurant. We came here for dinner. The portions were really good for a fair price. I had the Fuji mountain.
