We started the morning by walking down to the Blackberry Patch for one last restaurant meal before heading out for the day. Our waitress came up and said somebody had paid for our bill and said to enjoy your hike. They wanted to give some support. Truly blessed!
I’ve had pain on my left medial ankle for about three weeks. It’s not getting better and it’s got me a little concerned. I’m still hoping it’s just an inflamed tendon that I can keep stretching and massaging. It started to get better before I went into the Sierras, but with all of the side slope snow I think it’s regressed.
Our morning blessings continue. Leaving the restaurant there is a hiker who is on a zero. His wife follows him in their car. They offered us a ride to the trail. We set off after our zero.
I crossed a couple of bridges as I arrived in the area of Burney Falls State Park. I headed to the general store and got a large soft serve ice cream, nothings better than trail ice cream.
Burney Falls is a beautiful state park with a large picturesque waterfall.
The trail crosses the Pitt river, which comes from Lake Britain. We cross over the dam and will continue the trail on the other side through more beautiful forest.
The trail continues on to beautiful open forest land. Pine trees are covered in both the light green moss, and this dark green hair like moss.
Since the dam we’ve been on a steady, uphill climb up through Pine, and into this oak grove at the top of the mountain. We can look across the valley at the pine tree covered mountain side. I can hear a rushing river in the valley below which became visible as I went a little further down the trail.
The trail eventually led to this bridge and Creek. It was a great water filter location.
Just after the bridge the creek forms this waterfall visible from the trail above. The trail also treated me to more expansive views of pine covered mountains.
Coming off the dam I had a 4.7 mile 1500 foot climb up the mountain to my camping spot. Water was .1 mile down the trail 100 feet lower than the camp. Popcorn stopped .8 miles back at a different campsite. We will meet up in the morning.
