Day 69 rivers, passes, Meadows

We woke up at 3 AM packed up and started walking at four. We used head lamps for the first 30 minutes until the sun started to rise.

As has become standard the views are amazing everywhere you look all day long.

Time to fill up some water at this beautiful stream that is coming out of the snow

After filling our water bottles, we reached the river that we must cross. We hiked along the river for about a half a mile until we found an ice bridge.

Now that the river is crossed, we took a break for lunch

After lunch, we have a long hard climb up a steep slope again the views are incredible. We stopped at Midway for a snack and quick rest.

After the steep climb we crossed a saddle, and immediately dropped back down into this meadow.

One of the important things to remember is to just to stop every now and then turn around and look around. It so easy to get caught up in pushing forward, and making your mile goal, that sometimes you forget to look at what your here to see.

Views from Lower Crab Tree meadow along Whitney Creek

Today’s hike was not nearly as tedious as Yesterdays. We made it to Crab Tree Meadows campgrounds, which is at the base of Mount Whitney.

I set up camp, ate my dinner and organized my path for tomorrow’s attempt at a summit of Mt Whitney. I will be waking up at midnight and starting the hike at 12:30

Today’s miles 13.2, with an additional 1.5 off trail for the campsite. Total PCT trail miles 766.3
