Day 67 Return to full snow

Walking out of camp at 6 AM starting a little earlier today hoping to get a little more crust on top of the snow. Last night had some light rain a lot of condensation inside the tent and on the end of my sleeping bag, so will need to dry that at lunch today.

The trail is covered with large snow, drifts and water for me and streams on the trail.

Had my first Sierra River cross challenge. Went up about a half a mile was unable to find a place to cross ended up throwing a small dead tree across the narrow spot. On top of some sunken brush. Mildly successful only went about ankle deep. Did not video afraid I would drop my phone.

As we begin our climb up to the top of our next mountain, we’ve stopped to top off our waters and camel up. There are some really cool old gnarled Sierra junipers here.

At our 5 mile mark, we reached a Vista overlooking Owens Valley to the east

Moore Mountain top views, and as I pass through another saddle I made some more trail video.

Snow is picking up and there is less and less dry trail.

Everywhere you look the views are astonishing. We were soon back in full snow.

We have had sold snow most of the day once again very slow going then hiking 10 hours and I’ve gone 10.4 miles still have about 2.1 to go for the minimum distance campground we wanted 3 miles to go for the ideal one. I don’t think we’re going to make it there. Enjoy the trail video.

Today was a difficult day definitely feeling the effects of altitude and the snow. I arrived at my campsite found a tree well that had dry ground and set up my tent. I had to go downhill to a frozen meadow and break through some ice to get water. I would like to have been asleep a couple hours ago. It is now 8 o’clock and I am down for the night. Jeff and Ellen did not make it to this campsite. They stopped a half mile back.

Today’s miles 12.5  Total trail miles 742.1
