Day 65 into the Sierras I go

I went to sleep to a gorgeous sunset and woke up ready for today.

This is it the day we head into the Sierras! It started with the .7 mile road walk back to the trail. I now have a fully packed backpack. It’s coming in right at 50 pounds with my 8 1/2 days of food and water so it’s the heaviest it’s been so far and we’ll see how the trail treats me today.

We sign the register as we entered the South Sierra Wildness

We’ve been paralleling in the Kern River for most of the morning and we have our first crossing thankfully, there is a bridge because there’s no crossing this without that. On the other side we took a little break got some water and a snack and are continuing on

The Sierras do have a beautiful views in all directions

Another pretty cool rock formation. One boulder is just sitting on top of the other.

We have been following Crag creek. We stopped where the water crosses the trail for lunch.

Made it to the top of the range we’ve been hiking by going over a saddle. First picture is where we came from second picture where we are going

Looking ahead the trail opens up to this gorgeous meadow with mountain peaks covered in snow behind

The trail climbs up alongside the meadow, giving us a View from slightly above

Standing on top of a knob with incredible views

Walking towards our second crossing of the kern river today. Again, thankfully, there is a bridge for this one as well. Along the way, we continuously pass small streams, coming down the hillside, feeding the river.

I managed to get a picture of this beautiful blue bird before he flew away

The trail has reached the second Kern river bridge crossing.

The trail now takes us along Cow Creek. We will be camping along side it this evening after crossing it a couple times

We arrived, did a second Creek Crossing, set up our tents along the river and settled in for dinner and the night.

Today’s miles 17.0 (plus .7 road walk not counted)

Total PCT trail miles 719.2
